ROASTED CHESTNUTS VIII

Dubbed “Our Christmas” by past attendees, The Queer Songbook Orchestra invites you to our eighth annual holiday show, Roasted Chestnuts. With an intimate combination of music and storytelling, we’ll reflect together on the holidays through the lens of queer experience, celebrating chosen family and queer joy. Expect laughter, tears and intergenerational connection at this all ages event!

Funds from this year’s Roasted Chestnuts support the Queer Songbook YOUTH Orchestra (QSYO). Formed in Spring 2022, the QSYO is an avenue for queer, trans, questioning and allied youth to further their musical training while actively engaging in 2SLGBTQ+ representation and community building. The QSYO (and other fabulous guests) will be featured on several selections at this Roasted Chestnuts performance!

Roasted Chestnuts is an event for all ages, with general admission seating. Masks are strongly encouraged.

The QSO has partnered with Bellwoods Brewery to create a new beer, the second in Bellwoods series “A Beer They Made”. It’s a refreshing, summery lager infused with dandelion and perfect for these hot days and warm nights. The Queer Songbook Youth Orchestra will be featured performers for Amal’s welcome to Toronto, taking place at Nathan Phillips Square on June 7. Alongside other guests Dreamwalker Dance Company with Phil Davis, Joshua “Classic Roots” DePerry, Isaiah Gilsen, Digging Roots, Kuné Music Collective, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières, Union Station, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Institute for Canadian Citizenship, National Ballet of Canada and more.

An annual gathering of music and storytelling, hosted by the Queer Songbook Orchestra, Roasted Chestnuts is a holiday show with a focus on chosen family and queer joy. With several special guests from our Toronto community joining us on stage, we offer an evening to come together and reflect on the holidays through the lens of queer experience. Expect laughter, tears and intergenerational connection in an evening that has been dubbed by past attendees as "Our Christmas".

This year funds are being raised to support our newly developed Queer Songbook YOUTH Orchestra (QSYO). Our annual holiday fundraiser is back and in person again this year!

Join us December 21 as we return to the stage for our 7th annual holiday celebration and fundraiser. We’ll be performing our favourite songs of the season and inviting members of the community to share personal stories of 2SLGBTQ+ experience connected to the holidays.
